I love my tacky Christmas decorations – I want it to look like joy has thrown up & I don’t care what my neighbours say
A WOMAN has revealed that she loves her tacky Christmas decorations – and thinks the more colour the better.
Erika Kikola explained that she loves going all out with her festive decorations and opts for a maximalist, vintage and nostalgic feel.
Showing off her home‘s festive makeover on social media, Erika explained that she wants her home to look like joy has thrown up, and doesn’t care what other people have to say about her Christmas decor — as she’s just glad her toddler will love it.
The mother gave her followers a close-up look at her jaw-dropping tree, which has close to 1,000 decorations, as she wrote: “Colourful, cosy, vintage and kinda tacky Christmas forever.”
She panned around her home, showing off her extensive displays, including a fireplace full of trinkets and a kitchen covered in decorations.
Alongside her video, the mum attached an audio that read: “I don’t know who needs to hear this. Well, actually, I do, it’s boring people.
“But Christmas tree decorations are not supposed to be sleek and classy and minimalist.
“It’s supposed to look like joy has thrown up in your house, okay?
“It’s supposed to be a little bit tacky.
“So loosen up, buy yourself a tacky little Christmas decoration, and stop taking yourself so seriously.”
Erika later confirmed: “I try to make it as magical as possible for the kids…they’re kinda desensitised to it though.”
While you might assume that Erika splashed the cash on her epic decorations, she claimed: “I’m cheap and my joy was thrifted for very little.”
She also explained that to save money, she made her own fireplace garland, as well as the tiny houses on her mantelpiece.
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @whilefloriansleeps, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 263,100 views in just one day.
Social media users were stunned at Erika’s decorations and were eager to express this in the comments.
One person said: “I audibly gasped at the first tree.”
To this, Erika then replied: “Most people do, either in awe or in horror.”
Another added: “No this is so beautiful. Gaudy chic. I’m obsessed.”
A third commented: “This is PERFECT.”
Whilst someone else chimed in: “Beautiful and so colourful I love it!”
Meanwhile, another user asked: “Can I ask how many ornaments are on the tree? Or an estimate?? I want this look but I have 170 ornaments and it does not look enough!”
In response, Erika wrote: “Probably close to 1,000.”
