Woman who saved £5.50 on DIY hamper for her mum gets utterly rinsed for making it look like a budget raffle prize
A WOMAN who saved £5.50 by making a budget Christmas hamper for her mum has been slammed by people, who say the gift is awful and looks like a ‘raffle prize.’
The woman, who is known as @moneymumofficial on TikTok, shared her budget hamper idea via a social media video.
In the video, the mum can be seen looking at a Dove shower gel set.
Wagging her finger at the product she said: “£9.50 for two shower gels and a sponge – I don’t think so.”
Moneymum then proceeded to show viewers how to make a much cheaper version of the hamper instead.
She advised taking a box you already own and then purchasing the shower gel and sponge separately.
She then scruffily wrapped the box in layers of clingfilm and scibbled ‘love you mum’ in pen on a piece of paper, which she stuck on the box alongside a gold ribbon.
“This cost me £4, saving me £5.50”, she said.
TikTok users were quick to criticise the gift’s presentation, which many said would look a lot nicer if it was wrapped in cellophane.
One user said: “Clingfilm makes it look like you’ve gifted a raffle prize”.
Another added: “The pre-packaged one is a nice gift, but packaging them yourself says ‘you don’t wash enough’.”
A third added: “Jesus Christ, I’d rather lose the fiver.”
However, some people were impressed by Moneymum’s budgeting skills and praised her Christmas gift idea.
One TikTok user said: “This is exactly what I’m doing this year”.
Another added: “I’m going to make my mum a hamper this year as I’m sick of being ripped off.”
