American woman shares three things that baffle her about UK kids’ parties – and we bet you’re guilty of them
AN American woman has revealed the three things that totally baffled her when she first attended a kids’ party in the UK.
And we can bet you’re guilty of at least one of them, as she lifted the lid on the quirky traditions parents always seem to follow.
TikTok user Yorkshire Peach (@yorkshirepeach) now lives in the UK after moving here from her home country.
Since, she’s made a name for herself on social media speaking about the weird and wonderful things Brits do that she had no idea about before relocating across the pond.
In her latest video, she decided to focus on kids’ birthday parties – and why she was left scratching her head while attending her first couple with son Lucas.
“Things that blew my mind about British birthday parties,” she began in the video posted to her profile.
Yorkshire Peach then continued: “Pass the parcel – I didn’t have a clue what was going on!
“I think Lucas was two or three and we went to a birthday party.
“They’re playing the music, they’re passing around the parcel… but we’d say package at home.
“They’re undoing the layers and there’s a little piece of candy, then you undo the layer again – I didn’t have a clue.”
But it didn’t take long for Yorkshire Peach to become a convert of the fun party game she’d previously “never heard of before in her life”.
She continued: “Pass the parcel – what a legendary game.
“You’re missing a trick America with that game at a birthday party.”
But that was far from the only thing that caught her attention.
Yorkshire Peach then went on to reveal that she couldn’t get her head around the “super weird” way that cake is served at a kids’ party.
She explained: “Not cutting the cake and instead cutting it up, putting it in a paper towel and shoving it into the party bag.
“I had no idea! We got out of the car and I was like, ‘what is this mushy little – what has Lucas stuffed in this little party bag?’
“It was a cake! They don’t eat the cake. You eat some buns or whatever the place provides and you take the cake home. How strange is that?!”
But showing that she’s got used to some of our unique party rules, the social media mum said the last thing that surprised her was now something she couldn’t imagine being done a different way.
She concluded to her 1.1 million followers: “Now this is one that I think you guys get right – you don’t open the presents at the party.
“You take them home and I get why. Because it could be quite embarrassing and people are all on different incomes.
“[Americans] all sit around the open the presents in front of everybody – but I agree with that here.
“I agree with that now but I was so thrown.”
