My mum charges me £100 for Christmas lunch – we totally binge and have leftovers but I did kick up a fuss
WHEN Clarissa Bloom’s mum first asked for £100 to contribute towards Christmas, she was shocked.
Christmas is a time of giving, where loved ones come together to celebrate, play games and eat good food.
But, according to Statisa.com, the forecast for Christmas spending in 2023 shows that people in London will spend around £973.38.
Those in Scotland are forecasted to spend £752.1, those in Wales will likely spend around 757.72 and people in Northern Ireland will spend roughly £699.51.
While Clarissa and her sister initially “put up a fuss” over their mum’s request for December 25, they’ve since changed their tune about it.
Speaking to The Mirror, the 34-year-old, who is a relationship expert at the Stag Company, explained that she’s more than willing to pay for her “binges” over the festive season as her mum’s intentions are not malicious.
She explained: “Bless her, she doesn’t have a huge amount of money, so before the big food shop, she always asks for me and my sister to pay a third each.
“When we were younger, such as in our early 20s, we probably put up a bit of a fuss, but now we’re earning more we’re more than happy to do so.”
She went on to admit she understands that her mum may struggle to cover costs and over Christmas it can skyrocket to £300 dinner, which includes everything from meat to roast potatoes.
Clarissa told the publication that this works out to £100 per person, which she’s happy to pay as there’s always so much leftover.
She added: “To be honest, we only go home for four to five days, so it’s definitely an overspend…
“But it’s the one time of year you don’t mind blowing all the cash on crazy amounts of food and drink.”
