Chocolate coin recall: Do not eat these chocolates if you have a milk allergy
By Katherine Rodriguez nj.com (TNS)
If you have a milk allergy and have purchased a certain brand of dark chocolate coins, you might want to keep reading.
Manischewitz is recalling their Dark Chocolate Coins because they might contain undeclared milk, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
No illnesses have been reported as of this Monday.
The chocolates were distributed to stores nationwide, but the affected products were predominantly sent to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut between Sept. 26, 2023 and Nov. 28, 2023.
The company initiated the recall after finding a limited number of bags labeled as “Dark Chocolate Coins” containing milk chocolate coins, which did not have a milk allergen declared on the label.
The milk chocolate coins were wrapped in gold foil with blue netting while the dark chocolate coins were wrapped in silver foil with red netting.
According to the FDA, packages bearing the lot code 2283 and have gold foil coins inside them could potentially have chocolates containing dairy in the bags.
Consumers who have purchased this product are advised to check to see if there are gold foil coins in the dark chocolate bags. If there are, the FDA advises consumers to stop consuming the product and return it to its place of purchase for a refund or credit.
Consumers who have questions about the recall can email Customercare@kayco.com or call 718-369-4600 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
