I’m a 47-year-old makeup artist with fab anti-aging tips, my ‘dot concealer’ trick stops eyes looking ‘tired and dusty’
AGING is inevitable but the way you apply your makeup can help you maintain a youthful complexion.
A 47-year-old makeup artist has shared her top anti-aging application tips.
In her video, Erica Taylor (@ericataylor2347) demonstrated her method, which she recommends to anyone who uses makeup.
For her first suggestion, the TikToker targeted a common mistake when it comes to applying eye shadow.
“Do not start your eye shadow by putting a light color all over,” she warned her followers.
“That will make your eyes look dusty and tired, and your shadows will not stick, they’re going to fall all over your face,” Erica continued.
She showed her audience the concealer hack she uses to elevate her eye shadow look.
“Instead, let’s do a little bit of a concealer of eye shadow base, just a dot,” Erica said.
“Then blend it out with your fingertip to brighten up the lid, your shadows will grab to the texture,” she explained.
She also advised viewers to use one medium-toned eyeshadow instead of multiple light shades.
“One shadow is better than 12 of the wrong ones, the lid with all the light looks heavier and more tired,” Erica said.
After demonstrating “the one shadow express,” she moved on to another method she swears by for maintaining smooth youthful skin around her eyes.
“Eye masking every morning will help the crapiness, puffiness, darkness, and lines under your eyes,” she advised.
For her next tip, she showed her audience the best way to test concealers.
“If it looks immediately dry on your hand it will be immediately dry on your face,” Erica said.
“Opt for a balmy creamy concealer that does not get crusty on your hand,” she added.
She recommended the $29 Makeup By Mario concealer stick, which is available at Sephora.
“This one is still hydrated and has a sheen, that’s a yes for mature skin, see how it glides on?” Erica said as she demonstrated the product.
She also addressed a common issue when it comes to finding the correct foundation shade.
“If when you’re putting on your foundation you have to run and put on blush and bronzer it’s too light,” Erica explained.
“You should be able to put on your foundation and go and just look a little bit more healthy and even,” she said.
“Opt for something with a little more color instead of a little less,” she added, showing viewers the $22 Glossier Stretch Balm Concealer.
She also suggested using clear gel and a thin brow pencil over powder when filling in your eyebrows to give them a more natural look.
Erica also recommended steering clear of powder products when it comes to your bronzer.
“Contouring with powder bronzers is a disaster, it will always look muddy and blotchy, instead opt for an easy-to-use creamy stick and blend,” she explained.
“Blend up to lift the cheeks not to drop them, look at that, like butter,” Erica said, using the $45 Haus Labs Coverage Foundation.
For her final tip, she offered some unconventional advice on blush application to her followers.
“Put your blush where you think your highlighter should go, just try it, I know it feels weird but you’ll get a lot more of a lifted cheek,” she said.
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the advice.
“55 here!! Your tips are a game changer!” wrote one impressed follower.
“I love all your tips, which have been incorporated into my makeup and they are amazing!!!” said another viewer.
“I’m taking this video with me to Sephora,” commented a third person.
