THE cold weather may be putting us in the festive mood, but it can bring with it a bevvy of problems including condensation, dampness and even mould inside homes – but savvy Amazon shoppers think they’ve discovered a natural way to solve these problems.
Amazon’s £9.99 Spathiphyllum plant – also known as a peace lily – has thousands of five-star reviews online, with customers praising its ability to reduce air moisture in the house.

The Peace Lily plant has pretty white flowers, comes in a 9cm growers pot and is between 20-30cm in height, with Amazon estimating that it could grow to up to 50-60cm over time.
Originating from Central and South America, peace lilies thrive in shady, humid conditions, making them perfect for bathrooms or other corners of your home.
They absorb excess moisture and pollutants in the air through their leaves, which could help to reduce condensation, mould and mildew for homeowners and tenants as well as purify the air.
Condensation occurs on windows in winter when water vapour from the air inside the home hits the colder temperature of the glass, causing droplets to form.
This can lead to black mould appearing, and increased damp levels inside your home.
There are several items and appliances you can buy to help with this problem (including the best dehumidifiers) but shoppers think they’ve found an effective and affordable alternative with this £9.99 Amazon houseplant.

Another five-star review reads: “I bought the peace lily to combat condensation on and around the bedroom window. It is a very healthy plant, and well worth the money.”
A third customer wrote: “A lovely healthy plant on arrival. Brightens my office and helps to purify the air. Highly recommended.”
Peace lilies can be mildly toxic to animals though, so be sure to keep them out of reach of pets.
