Denny Laine dead: Moody Blues co-founder and Wings musician who wrote Mull Of Kintyre with Paul McCartney dies age 79
GUITARIST Denny Laine has died aged 79.
The rocker was the lead singer of the Moody Blues and a guitarist with Paul McCartney’s band Wings.
His wife today revealed he has died after battling lung cancer.
In a statement she said: “I was at his side, holding his hand as I played his favourite Christmas songs for him.
“He fought everyday. He was so strong and brave, never complained.
“All he wanted was to be home with me and his pet kitty, Charley, playing his gypsy guitar.”
Denny teamed up with Sir Paul in 1971 and stayed with Wings for all their ten years.
Mull of Kintyre was about the Scottish peninsula where Macca has a farm.
It was the first single to sell more than two million in the UK.
In April 1981, Denny announced he was leaving Wings due to McCartney’s reluctance to tour in the wake of John Lennon’s murder.
The ex-Moody Blues star fell ill after catching Covid in 2022 at home in Naples, Florida.
