Orange County Soccer Club President Oliver Wyss leaving for USL job

Oliver Wyss, who has been a fixture with Orange County Soccer, serving as coach and most recently as team president and general manager, is moving to a new role within the United Soccer League.

Wyss will serve as the USL’s head of global football development and sporting director.

“We’re very excited to welcome Oliver to the league office,” USL President Paul McDonough said in a statement. “The USL has made great strides in the quality of play on the field and in the development of young talent in recent years.

“Oliver’s wealth of experience at the club level and his proven track record of identifying, developing, and selling top young prospects will help us continue to improve the level of play in our professional leagues and increase our presence in the global transfer market.”

Current OCSC Sporting Director Peter Nugent will take over as club president of soccer operations and general manager.

“Peter Nugent has been the engine that makes the club’s soccer operations run in the proper direction and on time over the past nine years, working hand-in-hand with Oliver,” OCSC owner James Keston said. “I am extremely confident that OCSC’s soccer operations will not miss a beat and will rise to new heights in the coming years under his leadership.”

Nugent has worked with Wyss for the last nine years.

“From Day One at Orange County, my hope and vision was to build a well-respected successful organization that the entire community can identify themselves with, and be proud of,” Wyss said. “It’s been an absolute privilege working closely with so many talented coaches, players and staff over the last nine years, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity.

“I would like to sincerely thank (owner) James (Keston) for his enduring commitment to OCSC and for sharing a joint vision for the club. The organization is in the best hands with Peter leading the technical side forward to many more successes on the field.”

Wyss will begin his new role with the league next month.
