I make £5k a week after opening a tuck shop in my parents’ SHED – I’m only 18 & sell treats all around the world
MANY people will have fond memories of their first job, but we doubt you earned very much.
Despite having barely left school though, one eighteen year old has made a fortune selling sweets – from his parents’ shed.
Though you might have bought sweets from your classmates, Callum Baker, 18, has turned his love of all things sweet into a full time business.
Unlike many schoolboys, the entrepreneur started his sweetie side hustle just a week before his sixteen birthday – whilst being ‘really bored’.
Like many teens, Callum was sat on his phone scrolling through social media when he was inspired by Tiktok‘s sweet shops, including Greedy Gwin.
Unsure whether he could make a similar business work, he invested £50 to create a website and bought five products.
Having grown up with the internet, the teenager quickly used Facebook and Tiktok to advertise his business – with everyone frothing at the mouth over the candy.
Customers wanting an extra bite could even watch him pack orders, with Callum regularly going viral on the app over the tasty treats he’d send off.
Now, the Cardiff teenager is the owner of online brand The Sweet Shack and earns a staggering £5k per week – thanks to the over 200 orders he receives weekly.
He has even taken on staff, with a neighbour helping him pack orders every evening.
If that weren’t impressive enough, the small business owner believes he has earned over £74,000 from his initial investment – all whilst working from his parents’ garden.
It is a major upgrade from keeping a small amount of stock in his bedroom, with Callum revealing that he underestimated how hungry people were for US sweets and fizzy drinks.
The teen said: “At first I had the corner of my bedroom, the one shelf, then two and then I took over the spare room as things got more popular.”
As people’s appetites grew, Callum’s family even had to build a shed for his business and they are now looking to expand again.
There’s a lot on the young man’s plate though, as he is also studying public services at Cardiff and Vale College – and will potentially, join the police after he finishes his exams.
However, he isn’t quite ready to give up the junk food just yet and has ambitious plans to turn his online sweet store into an import/export business.
For now though, Callum seems more than happy living the sweet life.
He previously told The Sun: “When I first started this business I was at rock bottom. I didn’t feel like I had much to live for but starting the business really gave me a drive in life.”
After spending time in hospital, the business has helped Callum rebuild his self-esteem and recover from depression.
He admitted: “My confidence has shot up, going on TikTok live and speaking to hundreds of people every night is amazing.”
It seems this teen will taste even more success in the near future.
