‘Genius’ way to defrost windscreens costs £3 & takes seconds – plus 50p kitchen staple upgrades method to elite level
A DRIVER has revealed the easiest way to de-ice your windscreen using a £3 Tesco product that can also be upgraded.
Cleaning expert Jottie has shared her secret hack on TikTok– and has been thanked by grateful motorists planning to put it into action this winter.
The “ice removal hack” video shows Jottie filling a cleaning bottle that has a brush on the end with lukewarm water.
Jottie then is easily able to wipe down the ice on her car’s windscreen with the lukewarm water melting the ice away.
Jottie uses a bottle of Dr Beckmann Carpet Cleaner which she has washed out and which retails from Tesco for £3.
The 16-second video then sees Jottie easily wiping away ice that has formed on her car’s windscreen early one morning.
170,000 people have viewed the clip, with people both and disagreeing with her tip.
Commenters questioned why Jottie was wiping away the ice on a car that had a heated windscreen.
“Fords have a heated windscreen and it takes 2 mins to melt off the ice,” said one.
“You literally have a Ford just use the heated windscreen said another,” said another.
But, Jottie said she was doing the hack to show to other people what they could do to de-ice their cars.
Other fans loved the suggestion and said “genius,” “love it”, or “fantastic”.
One commenter had the suggestion of adding salt for quicker results and salt supposedly prevents ice from forming the next time it freezes.
Experts explained: “This will dissolve the ice with a chemical reaction rather than melting it with heat.
“The ions in salt also lower the freezing point of water, making it difficult for it to refreeze.”
The official Dr BeckmannUK TikTok account also replied with two emojis.
A Facebook mum also shared the same tip back in November, telling viewers: “I’m a genius.
“Get yourself one of these bottles, fill it with warm water and you’re sorted.
“No cold hands scraping anymore and it cleans your window screen too – the brush bit is ideal.”
The tip comes as experts recommended tackling condensation and de-fogging windscreens with a product costing just 14p per packet.
An alternative trick taking just 20 seconds was also shared.
Other recent driving tips for winter have included people highlighting the importance of a “weird squiggles” button.
