Four injured in home explosion in West Park, sheriff’s office says
A home in Broward’s West Park neighborhood was nearly leveled by an explosion early Tuesday morning.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Broward deputies responded to the residence in the 5200 block of SW 20th Street at 12:34 a.m.
First responders began evacuating nearby residences and searching through the debris to locate anyone who may have been in the residence or injured in the blast, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Four people injured in the explosion were taken to hospitals, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The blast also damaged nearby homes and cars.
Ervin Rogers, who lives across from the home, was awakened by a “big, big blast.”
“It was like a bomb, never heard anything like it in my life. Woke me right up,” he said. “A lady and child were brought on a stretcher.”
Rogers said the home was being renovated.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
