Kharge sensed the game and played safe by saying that the meeting agenda was not to choose a PM candidate but to firm up an anti-BJP alliance and that he was not into playing the Dalit card. Many leaders privately wondered later whether the move was meant to show Kharge's acceptability as bloc's PM face or Rahul Gandhi's unacceptability.
