My husband and I are in an open marriage and I also have a girlfriend – we’re happy, our 6 & 9-year-old kids are unfazed
WHOEVER said three is company has never met this happily married polyamorous couple.
The pair shared an insight into their set-up, including their children’s response to the news.
In her video, Melanie Morton (@melanie_morton_) recounted telling her six and nine-year-old about her girlfriend.
The TikToker, who is married to A.J., explained that they had been in an open marriage for almost two years now.
Since they began the new era of their relationship, Melanie developed a close bond with Jackie.
After a year of Melanie and Jackie going out, the parents decided to tell their children the nature of their relationship.
“We wanted to make this conversation very natural, very nonchalant, not a big deal, and not weird at all,” she told her followers.
“The weirder you make things, the weirder kids make things, they are very intuitive,” Melanie said.
The couple decided to have the discussion while their children had a fruit snack at the kitchen table.
After explaining that “Jackie is Mommy’s girlfriend,” they asked their kids if they had any questions.
Melanie described how both of her children didn’t seem bothered by the revelation.
“Finally our oldest is like ‘I have a question’ and he goes ‘How did you get these strawberries so juicy, Mom?’” she said.
“So obviously it went really smoothly and they were just unfazed by it because of how we prepped them for this conversation,” Melanie explained.
She added that having Jackie in her children’s lives just meant they have “a bonus person who is a part of our family.”
Melanie told her kids that her girlfriend was someone “who you’re going to make memories with, who’s going to love you and care for you.”
She told her audience that since opening up her marriage she and her husband have “never been more in love, more happy, or more secure in [their] partnership.”
Melanie added that they are “unlearning societal norms, growing, and expanding as humans together, [and there is] nothing better.”
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the set-up.
“So happy for you guys! Forever look up to you and your family,” wrote one follower.
“Love this!!! Also, if you don’t question juicy strawberries are you even asking the right questions!?” said another viewer.
“This is so awesome to see! Your kids are going to be so accepting and loving of others who are different and we need more of that!” commented a third person.
