‘The best’ chocolate liqueur is AXED weeks before Christmas leaving Brits wondering ‘what on earth will we sip now’
A CHRISTMAS chocolate favourite has been axed right before the big day, leaving fans shocked.
Godiva chocolate liqueur has been discontinued and has left some British shelves after arriving in 2020.
But, some online retailers are still selling the drink according to their websites, including VIPBottles, Drink Supermarket, and The Bottle Club.
In several posts on X, formerly Twitter, Godiva said the chocolate liqueur had been discontinued.
“We regret to inform you that our GODIVA Chocolate Liqueur has been discontinued.
“We understand this news may be disappointing, but we invite you to explore our other delectable GODIVA treats. Thank you for your understanding,” one November post said.
“Thanks for reaching out! Confirming that our Liqueur products have been discontinued,” said another December post.
Godiva, the Belgian chocolatier founded in 1926, continues to tell its chocolates into the UK, including at one supermarket giant.
Luxury department store Harrods used to be the only place in the UK that sold the chocolate, but in 2017 500 Sainsbury’s stores also were able to sell it.
Fans were distraught with the news.
“Why ??? This was the best. I am trying others but it’s not the same. I’m tempted to make my own now,” said one.
“I’m a liquor rep and Godiva used to be one of our products. It was last July/August when they made the decision to stop producing it.
“We shipped out whatever we had left in our warehouse to accounts that stocked up for the long haul lol. Try Baileys Chocolate,” said another commenter.
The good news for fans of the Irish cream liqueur Baileys is that it is currently on sale at Sainsbury’s for just £10, with a bottle normally costing £13.
The offer is on until January 1, 2024.
That’s currently the cheapest price available, according to Trolley.co.uk, with Ocado selling it for £12 and if you buy it in Waitrose it will cost the usual retail price.
One bargain hunter on Hotukdeals.com wrote: “I thought this was worth posting as I was looking around to buy it as a gift and was very pleased when I found Sainsbury’s had it for £10.”
