Iran and Pakistan discuss bilateral relations and regional situation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has announced that Abbas Jilani, the country’s Foreign Minister, had a telephone conversation with Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, regarding the regional situation.
On Monday, the ministry issued a statement saying that the foreign ministers of the two countries described terrorism as a common challenge to regional security and assured each other in the fight against terrorism.
The acting head of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the recent attack in Iran and emphasized that Pakistan will fight terrorism in the region alongside Iran.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs page also stated that the Foreign Minister discussed issues such as “the need to strengthen joint cooperation to stop such terrorist acts and ensure the security of the common borders.”
Amir Abdollahian also expressed deep concern about the human rights situation in Gaza, adding that “the common position of Iran and Pakistan is full solidarity with the people of Palestine.”
This comes as the two countries, neighboring Afghanistan, had previously discussed the situation in Afghanistan and insisted on the establishment of an inclusive government in the country.
Officials from these countries have previously claimed that terrorist groups active in Afghanistan are disrupting the security of neighboring countries and the region.
While the interim government in Afghanistan has called these claims by Iran and Pakistan “baseless,” assuring that Afghan soil will not be used against any country.
