LSSC KICKS OFF END-OF-YEAR SPORTS FIESTA WITH MEDICAL OUTREACH FOR STAFF
The Lagos State Sports Commission has kicked off the Y2023 End of Year weeklong Sports Fiesta themed: “Stronger2gether”, with medical outreach for its staff on Monday at the Mobolaji Johnson Rowe Park Sports Centre Yaba.
Speaking at the medical outreach, the Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, said the exercise was designed for staff to know their health and fitness status to manage all conditions before the full commencement of the games.
He said, “We are in sports both physically and mentally but no matter what, we need to know that everyone is medically fit and it is compulsory we start from home and that is why we are starting the week with the medical outreach for the staff of the Lagos State Sports Commission. The screening is to ensure that the staff are fit to do their jobs as well as participate in the games.”.
According to him, officers would undergo a series of medical screenings including height rate, weight balance, blood pressure, random blood sugar, and a dental check. The rationale behind the medical exercise is to increase the awareness of maintaining a good healthy lifestyle which has been the mantra of the Sports Commission and in preparation for the end of the year fiesta Games.
“The week-long fiesta, which would start on Tuesday, would showcase various sporting events such as Handball, Volleyball, Five Aside, Beach Badminton, Abula, Basketball, Tug of War, TableTennis, Ayo, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly and other Board Games among members of staff”, he added.
The Director, Sports Medicine, Dr. Bukola Bojuwoye remarked that the purpose of the medical outreach is to bring together all members of staff as one big family. “Also, before they can participate in the sports fiesta, we have to check their health status by conducting different types of tests including blood sugar, blood pressure, diabetes and so on to ensure that the staff is physically for the games”, he stated.
On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Damilare Orimoloye noted that next to physical fitness is mental health. “Hence, the medical exercise is to prepare the staff for the end-of-the-year fiesta by bonding together”, he added.
The one-week-long event of the Lagos State Sports Commission, aimed at fostering unity amongst staff through different sporting activities and games, would be rounded up with a Carol Service and an End-of-Year Party.
