Detention of 82 Afghan refugees in Turkey
Foreign media have reported that 82 Afghan refugees were detained by Turkish police in the city of Ağrı, Turkey.
Turkish media, citing the police of the country, has stated that around 85 refugees without legal documents were detained by Turkish police, among whom 82 are Afghan citizens.
Authorities of the Turkish police added that this group of migrants, identified by the driver of a freight truck as an Iranian citizen, was apprehended by the Turkish police.
The Turkish police further stated that among the 85 refugees detained by Turkish police, three of them were Pakistani refugees.
Turkish police also mentioned that these refugees will be handed over to the relevant migration authorities after going through legal procedures.
Last week, Turkish police reported the detention of 64 Afghan refugees from the cities of Ağrı and Sakarya.
Since the beginning of this year, Turkey has detained and deported more than four thousand Afghan refugees from various cities back to Afghanistan.
In recent months, the detention and deportation of Afghan refugees in Turkey have intensified, and numerous reports of mistreatment by Turkish police towards Afghan refugees have also been published.
