So many people make little-known mistake with reverse light & it could see them FAIL their MOT – don’t get caught out
AN MOT mechanic has revealed a common mistake that could cause your vehicle to fail its safety test.
Craig, who works at Walsall Wood Tyre & Service in the West Midlands, took to TikTok to share the little-known advice with drivers.
In the video, he corrects a statement put to him by a follower concerning reverse lights.
“I still can’t believe that reverse lights are not in the MOT,” it reads.
Correcting the record, Craig begins: “Well, as a matter of fact sir, reverse lights are part of the MOT.
He continued: “They have been on all vehicles registered on or after September 1, 2009.
“So if your vehicle is newer than that then you should have reverse lights on there and it is subject to tests on the MOT.”
While some drivers may slip through the net, the motors whizz urged motorists to make sure their reverse lights are in working order.
“Yes I’m sure there are a lot of MOT tests out there that miss that, but this is a reminder to you guys.
“From 2009 onwards, you’ve got to have a reverse light.”
It comes after motorists were issued a warning about a little-known law which could see them slapped with a £2,500 fine this Christmas even if they aren’t driving.
Experts from Scrap Car Comparison urged drivers to be aware of the rule around drink driving as the festive party season kicks into gear.
Under the Highway Code, it is actually possible to be held liable for being drunk even if you aren’t actually behind the wheel.
Responsible partygoers may well decide to leave their motor parked up and get a taxi home, but popping back to your vehicle to grab your coat or simply standing next to it can land you in trouble with the law.
Elsewhere, millions of drivers could face eye-watering fines for breaking a little-known rule.
Motorists may think they know the do’s and don’t’s of how to use their lights, but failing to fix one little-known feature could fail your MOT.
