Prince William’s hilarious nickname revealed by Mike Tindall – as he says future king ‘is not the best of drinkers’
PRINCE William’s hilarious nickname has been revealed by Mike Tindall, as the former rugby star says the future King “is not the best of drinkers”.
Mike revealed that he and his wife Zara call Prince William “One Pint Willy”.
The retired England outside centre, 45, who is married to Princess Anne’s daughter, made the revelation in a special BBC podcast with rugby league legend Rob Burrow, who is battling motor neurone disease.
He also revealed that he and Zara call each other “munchkin” while she has her husband’s number saved in her phone as a nickname ending in “kitten”.
Mike told the podcast: “For the Prince of Wales, he is known as One Pint Willy.
“He is known to me as One Pint Willy because he is not the best of drinkers, coming from a sport where it is built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often.
“That is one I will give away for the Prince of Wales.”
Zara then bursts out laughing before adding: “Oh my god. You are in so much trouble.”
Burrow also asked the couple if they had any pet names for each other.
Mike said: “We basically call each other munchkins a lot. I don’t know why that started but it has stuck.
“I will let Zara decide whether she wants to give away what I am down in her phone as… “
Zara added: “He is in my phone as something else and it ends with kitten.”
Mike also admitted that he would love his son, Lucas, two, to become a professional golfer and he wanted to give him the middle name of Mulligan.
The 2003 Rugby World cup winner said: “The two-year-old is where I am pinning my dreams.
“I actually wanted his middle name to be Mulligan because if he did become a professional golfer, he would drop the Lucas and just become Mulligan Tindall.
“I thought that would be the best golfing name ever. Plus Mulligan means the offspring of a balding man, so that was perfect!”
In the podcast Burrow also told the members of the Royal Family he has always wanted to give the Alternative Christmas Message, which airs on Channel 4 at the same time as the King’s Christmas Message on the BBC and ITV.
Zara said: “I definitely think you could do the other Christmas speech. You would definitely rock it and be a huge inspiration to many people.
“I’m sure (King Charles) would let you just do your own thing. I hope to see that one time. I think you just record it anyway and send that out there.”
The Tindalls’ nickname for Wills comes after Kate Middleton let slip her affectionate nickname for her daughter, Princess Charlotte.
A woman who met the couple during a visit to Windsor Park stadium in Northern Ireland said: “I said he is four and she said ‘oh, he’s the same age as Lottie’ — she calls her Lottie!”
It is not the only nickname that the Princess of Wales has for her daughter it seems.
During a shopping trip to The Range back in 2018, a fellow shopper told the Mail that they had overheard Kate telling Charlotte to “get up poppet.”
In a sweet clip from the family’s visit to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, fans were sure they had uncovered Prince William’s French term of endearment for his daughter.
Sending Royal fans into a frenzy, some believe that the royal father-of-three refers to his daughter as “mignonette” which translates as “cute” and “delicate” in French.
What’s more, The Sun exclusively revealed in January that Kate Middleton affectionately calls her husband “baldy” while Wills refers to her as “Duchess of Dolittle.“
It was revealed in January 2019, Prince George told a dog walker that his name was Archie.
When she was pregnant Kate and William referred to him as “our little grape.” At school he is known as PG and his parents then started calling him PG Tips or just “Tips” after the tea.
As a child William was dubbed “Wombat” by mum Diana, and at University he called himself “Steve” as he tried to blend in with fellow students.
At school Kate was known as “Squeak” because her sister was Pippa so they were jointly named “PipSqueak.”
Queen Elizabeth II was always known as “Lilibet” in her family because she couldn’t say her name Elizabeth when she was young.
She had also been called “Brenda” by satirical magazine Private Eye and “The Baked Bean” in rhyming slang, while Prince Philip called her “Cabbage” or “Sausage.”
Queen Camilla told singer Lady Gaga at the 2016 Royal Variety Performance that her grandkids call her “GaGa”.
And Prince Harry calls his dad “pa”, and is often called “darling boy” in return.
Meghan Markle also gave Prince Harry a nickname just weeks after they went for their first date, it has been revealed.
A friend of the former Suits star, Gina Nelthorpe-Crowne, revealed that Meghan refers to her partner affectionately as “Haz”.
Philip has been called “Phil the Greek” “Zorba” and “Stavros” by the press and servants because he was born in Corfu.
King Charles and second wife Camilla secretly called themselves “Fred and Gladys” during their long affair while Charles was married to Diana.
