People say I look 19 or ’20 years younger’ than I did a year ago, I appreciate the love and there’s a reason for it
WHETHER it’s meant as a compliment or not, commenting on someone’s appearance isn’t always a good idea.
A woman has shared her response after being told she looks two decades younger than she did a year ago.
In her video, Jaime (@jaimes.vsg.journey) explained the dramatic change in her appearance.
The TikToker revealed that her “glow-up” was a result of gastric sleeve surgery, resulting in a weight loss of 112 pounds.
Jaime demonstrated some of her go-to workout moves, which also helped to sculpt her new figure.
She showed her followers a before and after comparison of her physique.
Viewers pointed out that she looked not only thinner but younger in the after pictures.
One person commented that Jaime’s appearance seemed “20 years younger, honestly.”
“GIRL, you look 19,” another shocked TikTok user wrote under her video.
She addressed the comments that highlighted her younger look post-weight loss.
“I’m 27 so I would have just been seven years old 20 years ago,” Jaime explained.
Referring to the before picture, in which she was dressed in an oversized striped T-shirt dress and leggings, she said: “In my defense, it was not my fault I was dressed like somebody’s grandma.
“They do not make a lot of flattering clothes for bigger women,” Jaime told her followers.
“You go to the store and what’s on the racks is not always the cutest, you just grab whatever fits,” she explained.
While Jaime acknowledged that some brands have improved on size inclusivity, she pointed out the continued issue for plus-size women.
“Women of all shapes and sizes deserve to be able to go into a store and find something that makes them feel beautiful, that they can express themselves in,” she said.
Jaime explained that it is still not an easy task to find clothes in larger sizes and online shopping can be risky for curvier women.
“Sometimes things run small, things run big, you can’t try it on, it’s a lot,” she told viewers.
Jaime acknowledged that the comments about her appearance were meant to be compliments and concluded by thanking her audience.
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their own experiences.
“People don’t get how difficult it can be to find cute clothes when you’re a bigger size,” one follower said.
“I went from late 30s to having to [show] ID for drinks. That’s an accomplishment and a half,” wrote another viewer.
“And that’s why I started losing weight, because of that exact reason,” commented a third person.
