Nike TOC: Mitty rolls into semifinals
This is supposed to be a big test for Archbishop Mitty’s girls basketball team. So far, the Monarchs are treating it like every other exam on the schedule.

Mitty blew out a second consecutive opponent in the top division at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona on Tuesday behind more excellence from super sophomore McKenna Woliczko and UConn-bound senior Morgan Cheli.
The Monarchs routed Xavier College Prep of Arizona 72-42 one day after they cruised past Miami Country Day 62-35.
Mitty, the Bay Area News Group’s top-ranked team, will play Crestwood Preparatory College of Toronto in the semifinals on Wednesday. Crestwood rolled over Mater Dei-Santa Ana 70-51 in the first round and defeated Lone Peak of Utah 59-53 on Tuesday.
In the Monarchs’ win Xavier College Prep, Woliczko had 24 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Cheli added 21 points and Lehigh-bound Belle Bramer finished with nine points.
Mitty improved to 5-0, with each of its games decided by no fewer than 27 points.
Carondelet wins again at TOC
Fifth-ranked Carondelet advanced to the semifinals of the John Anderson Division at the TOC, beating Centennial-Corona 56-45 in the second round on Tuesday. The Cougars opened the tournament with a 62-52 victory over West Linn of Oregon on Monday.
They will play Bob Jones of Alabama on Wednesday for a spot in Thursday’s division final.
Salesian, Bishop O’Dowd fall
Ninth-ranked Salesian lost for the second consecutive day at the TOC as the Pride fell 16 points behind at halftime and went on to lose to Perry of Arizona 55-37 in the John Anderson Division. Madalyn Kanazawa finished with nine points and Janiya Sawyer added eight points, six rebounds, five blocks and three steals for Salesian (2-3), which will play Millennium of Arizona on Wednesday.
Third-ranked Bishop O’Dowd came up short in its bid for the semifinals in the Joe Smith Division at the TOC, losing to Cherokee Trail of Colorado 61-47. O’Dowd, which beat Centennial of Nevada 63-50 on Monday, will face Bishop Montgomery of Torrance on Wednesday.
Menlo School 56, Fremont-Sunnyvale 49
Ruiqi Liu scored 24 points and Karen Xin added 21 points to lead Menlo to a non-league victory over host Fremont. Menlo stretched a four-point halftime cushion to 11 in the third quarter on its way to improving to 5-3. Fremont dropped to 5-4.
Boys basketball
No. 9 Oakland Tech 70, Woodinville 64
Oakland Tech stretched its winning streak to six games with a victory over Woodinville of Washington in the first round of the Mission College Prep Holiday Classic in San Luis Obispo. Tech (7-1) will play Bishop Montgomery-Torrance on Wednesday.
No. 20 Moreau Catholic 73, Lincoln-San Francisco 47
Four Moreau players scored in double figures as the Mariners bounced back from a one-sided loss against Davis to beat Lincoln-San Francisco at Mt. Eden. Kevin Chapman scored 16 points to lead Moreau, which also got 12 points from Spencer Shonnard and 10 points each from Jalen Arnold and Kareem Jackson Jr. The Mariners improved to 5-2. Lincoln is 3-8.
Pinole Valley 68, El Cerrito 52
Leading by one point after three quarters, Pinole Valley erupted over the final eight minutes to turn back host El Cerrito in a non-league game. Sophomore Chriseanie Nealy led the Spartans with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Jaylin Reed, another sophomore, added 16 points and senior Nnamdi Osajindu finished with 11 points as Pinole Valley improved to 4-5. El Cerrito is 4-6.
Menlo School 74, Summit Shasta 52
Tate Cohen scored 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting to lead Menlo to a non-league victory at home over Summit Shasta. The Knights also got 11 points from Aidan Stull and a combined 17 points from sophomores Evan Arcilla and Ethan Zhao as they improved to 4-2 heading into a home game Thursday against Menlo-Atherton (7-0). Summit Shasta fell to 5-2.
Valley Christian 61, Christopher 55
Valley Christian won on the road over Christopher as Diego Martinez scored 30 points to lead the way. The Warriors also got 10 points from Justin Hampton as they upped their record to 5-1. Christopher is 2-5.
Girls soccer
Campolindo 2, California 1
Indira Naylor and Carina Trento scored for Campolindo as the Cougars edged host California in a non-league game. Campo improved to 3-2. California is 1-1-2.
Menlo School 1, University-San Francisco 1
Trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, host Menlo evened the score when Alyssa McAdams scored on a header off a corner kick from Lila Gold. Menlo is 1-3-3. University is 2-0-3.
