Man says he’ll ‘never do Secret Santa again’ over co-worker’s letdown gift but some say he’s being ungrateful
GETTING gifts for friends and family can be hard but getting gifts for coworkers and strangers can be even worse.
One man shared his disappointment with the gift he received from his office Secret Santa.
Star (@star_hollywood) revealed the gift in a video with over 120,000 TikTok followers.
He sat in his car with a large blue gift box, topped off with a shiny silver bow.
Although the presentation of his gift was flashy, Star explained he was let down by what he received, to the point of being put off from Secret Santas altogether.
“I will not be participating in Secret Santa anymore at any job, any workplace ever again,” he said.
He explained that he pulled out all the stops for his gift, making sure each detail was perfect.
“Last Friday, everybody was supposed to brought they gifts, I went all out of my way, I put Christmas lights on the bag, Santa paper, I had all kind of stocking stuffers in the bag, I put bells in the bag,” he said.
In the spirit of Christmas, Star explained why he went to such lengths.
“It’s Christmas time, some people don’t even get a gift and Secret Santa sometimes, that person may just get that one gift so I may sure I always go up and beyond,” he said.
When it got to his turn, however, he was told his Secret Santa didn’t come to work that day but they would give him his gift on Monday.
“I get to work today, I get my gift y’all, she hands me my gift, I open it up and this is what I have, now mind you the limit was $25,” he said.
He opened up the lid of the box to reveal a package full of candy and chocolates.
“Now I know Reeses, Hersey’s, and Mr. GoodBar can be kind of on the expensive side but I said $25? Well maybe, she spent a little bit of money on the bow and the box because the box is kind of fancy,” he said.
Still, Star couldn’t help but feel disgruntled: “But y’all, I get a box of candy,” he said.
Star wasn’t the only one who felt wronged by their workplace Secret Santa set-up — many sympathizers flocked to the comments to share their own grievances.
“My secret Santa gave me a wool knitted hat. We live in Florida,” said one commenter.
“Our Secret Santa was supposed to be $25-$50 and my boss got my name and she gave me a trinket the ones people sell on the corner for $.25 for the blind so I took her gift,” said another.
“Last year one of my coworkers got our boss for Secret Santa and she gifted her a box of peanuts and everyone knew our boss was allergic to peanuts,” said a third.
One proposed a solution implemented at their workplace that helped resolve the issue.
“We started using Elfster for our company Secret Santa and you had to get something off of your person’s wishlist, for this very reason,” they said.
Others thought the situation could’ve been much worse: “I got a roll of 2 ply toilet paper once. It’s the season of giving. A box of chocolates is better than a lot. Be grateful!!” said one viewer.
