Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has received significant criticism during the 2024 NFL season, marking a swift decline from his success in the previous year. In a recent game against the Arizona Cardinals, there was a notable incident in the third quarter where the camera captured a heated disagreement between Quarterback Justin Fields and Getsy. CHGO Bears reporter Nicholas Moreano asked HC Matt Eberflus about the incident, acknowledging it making waves on social media. Eberflus provided an insightful response shedding light on the situation.
“I think they were arguing about under center or pistol. That might have been it. But the play works either way. It’s the same play.”
The writing might be on the wall for Luke Getsy
Matt Eberflus might believe the play can go either way, and it’s possible that it does. However, immediately after the disagreement between him and OC Luke Getsy, Justin Fields faced immediate pressure.
I asked #Bears coach Matt Eberflus what happened between Justin Fields and Luke Getsy prior to the second-and-6 play late in the third quarter.
Here is what Eberflus said.

This disconnect is similar Matt Nagy’s coaching of Nick Foles, where the veteran quarterback also engaged in a heated discussion with Nagy on the sideline during that coaching regime. During that time, there was notable tension with Nagy and the quarterback room, which included Foles and Mitchell Trubisky. While this may seem like a minor detail, such incidents tend to accumulate, eventually leading to a boiling point where either the OC or the QB goes rogue. This will no doubt play a role in GM Ryan Poles evaluation for next year.
