Rose Parade 2024: Meet Mia Moore-Walker, Rose Court princess
After moving from Chicago to California at 11 years old, Mia Moore-Walker attended the Rose Parade with her family. But she never knew that the Rose Court was hand-picked by the Tournament of Roses through a long process – which she finally witnessed for herself this year.
Moore-Walker said that her mother was the one who suggested that she participate in becoming one of the princesses for the 2024 Rose Parade. Through the interview process, she got to speak with past princesses about the acts of community service the court participated in.
This motivated her to commit, participate and answer the interview questions. Now, that dream came true and she is Princess Mia Moore-Walker, part of the 2024 Rose Court.
As a senior at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada Flintridge, Moore-Walker is an active leader in the school’s jellyfish lab, president of the ECO club, a varsity member of speech and debate, a member of multiple student leadership committees, as well as a private tutor.

Moore-Walker is also a member of the Spiritline Cheer Team, which she says is a great way to give back to her school community – and being a cheerful person makes it a lot easier to do.
She is also a big lover of animals and plants, even starting a garden at her school this year. Moore-Walker is currently interning at the LA Zoo.
“I love the mixture of teaching and conservation,” she said. “I really do like giving back to the environment and helping to save it.”
She is interested in studying biology with a concentration in conservation, and aspires to work at a zoo and eventually become a professor and own a lab. Of course, after saving “a billion animals from extinction and discovering a new species of plant,” she said smiling.
Her favorite animal is a rat, which is a bit unorthodox, Moore-Walker said. Her love for the furry critters started after watching Disney’s “Ratatouille.” She thinks they are adorable and a necessity in the ecosystem. She hopes one day to be able to have one as a pet.
Moore-Walker’s favorite musical artist is Lin-Manuel Miranda because of his singing and music writing abilities. One of her favorite songs is “Wait for It” from Miranda’s Broadway musical “Hamilton.”
Although many who know Moore-Walker know her love for the popular British TV show “Doctor Who,” one thing they do not know is that she also loves reading the Doctor Who books. Her favorite Doctor Who in the show is the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi.
As a senior in high school, Moore-Walker is excited to transition into college soon. But before then she will be looking forward to relaxing, spending time with friends and loved ones and even squeeze in one last internship during the summer.
For now, Moore-Walker is looking forward to the 2024 Rose Parade and being part of the Rose Court.
“I’m very excited. We’ve already done so many amazing events, and I know we have so much more coming up,” she said. “It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I genuinely would not give it up for anything.”
