‘They always try to get you’ drivers cry as they discover what sneaky ‘high five’ button on car dashboard REALLY does
DRIVERS are only just realising what the button with the “high-five symbol” on your dashboard really does.
A car fanatic took to TikTok to share the handy hack that the 2023 Ford Maverick has called an “auto-hold function”.
He explained that if you push that button when at a standstill, like in traffic or at a red light, a green light will come on and you can take your foot off the brake without moving forward.
One user wrote: “They always get you with them extras”.
While another joked: “Audis have this feature but you press hard on the brake and it holds till you hit the gas”.
In another TikTok video, posted last month, another user revealed that the feature helps with tricky hill starts as it can stop drivers rolling back.
In a post called “Ever wondered what the auto hold button does?” she explained it can help with those tricky hill starts.
She added: “Well, when you push it you get the auto hold on the dash,” as the camera pans across to the car’s dashboard with the auto hold function lit up in green.
She then said: “So now it’s green because I have braked so if I took my foot off the brake, this is an automatic, if I took my foot off the brake right now we won’t go anywhere because I’ve stopped the car using the brake pedal.
“It holds it for me… right so now I’m in drive right now, auto hold is green because I stopped the vehicle using my foot on the brake.”
Emma Jayne added: “My foot is not on the brake, so now I keep moving to get started… accelerate a little bit and [indicating the auto hold light] that should go white.”
She continued: “And now I am braking so I don’t hit my house and I’ve stopped the car using the brake and that’s gone green [meaning the auto hold light].
“So now, if I take my foot off the brake the car stays put, in drive.
“Hey, that’s auto hold.”
