Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Boys basketball
Havre de Grace 69, Westminster 59: The Owls enjoyed a six-point lead after one quarter but 14 straight Warriors points turned the game around. Westminster was led by Micah Ozgar’s impressive effort with 26 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brandon Barrett had five assists and three steals.
Meade 63, Francis Scott Key 33: Meade led by just five at halftime but pulled away with a 24-4 third quarter at the Route 175 Holiday Classic. Twelve Mustangs scored in the win. Lucaya Baldridge was the only player scoring in double figures with 10 points. He also had eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Glen Burnie 64, Joppatowne 54: Tim Shadare and Braedon Buchanan each tallied 16 points to lead the Gophers (6-1) past the Mariners at the James T. Bogle Mixer. Greg Pittman added 12 points. Kishann Smith had 10 points and eight rebounds for Joppatowne. Phil Clark had a team-high 12 points.
Long Reach 54, Broadneck 52: The Lightning continued a strong start to the season as RJ Barnes scored a team-high 24 points. Both Junior Nunez (13 points) and Jayden Saunders (10 points) scored in double figures.
Mt. Hebron 96, Bel Air 59: The Vikings erupted for a season-high in points in the win. Donnell Jones scored a game-high 23 points, including 13 in the third. Julian Kelly chipped in 19 points while Phil Prasartkarnka added 17 points including hitting five 3-pointers.
Parkville 57, Urbana 55: The Knights (5-2) broke the game open with a 21-12 second quarter before holding on down the stretch. Cam Alexander and Kyliek Howard each scored 18 points to lead Parkville, with Alexander going 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final seconds to seal the win.
Girls basketball
South River 54, Kent Island 32: Sylar Woodyard let the win with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals, while Ryleigh Adams had a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocks. Karlee Hawkins chipped in eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
St. Mary’s 74, Potomac School (Va) 58: Bailey Harris poured in 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Saints. Baily Walden backed her with 19 points, including hitting four 3-pointers. She also handed out five assists. Alex Vandiver had 18 points and seven rebounds.
Smithsburg 65, Manchester Valley 53: Autumn Stottlemire had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn’t enough for the Mavericks. Reese Kresslein added 16 points and Gabe McCarthy finished with 10.
Williamsport 40, Century 35: Despite the loss, the Knights got 18 points and eight rebounds from Harli Hamlett. Alaina Ziegler chipped in seven points and Alisse Sanchez finished with six points.
Glenelg 39, Wootton 28: Stephanie Lathrop scored a team-high 10 points for the Gladiators in the win. Both Emmy Dello Russo and Jordan Henggeler had eight points.
