Photographs record an instant in time, a moment that might otherwise be missed in the blink of an eye. Whether a news event, play of the game, a tender moment between two people, or moments of everyday life, photographs tell a story. They can lift imagination, capture the energy of the subject, and evoke emotions. Everyone with a cell phone can take a picture. But professionals pay close attention to detail that an untrained eye might take for granted or not notice such as the subject matter, composition, perspective, lighting or the weather. On the following pages, we give you a second look at The Aegis’ best staff photographs of 2023 – Our Pictures of the Year – A Photo Finish.
