Victim shot multiple times by masked men during armed robbery in Bridgeport

A man was shot multiple times during an armed robbery in Bridgeport Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old victim was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after police were dispatched to the 100 block of Wheeler Avenue at 8:20 p.m. after receiving the report of someone being shot and a ShotSpotter notification that detected four gunshots, according to the Bridgeport Police Department. The man was taken to an area hospital where he has been listed in stable condition, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation suggests the victim was targeted during an armed robbery. Police believe two masked men approached the victim on foot and, during the robbery, one of them pulled out a handgun and shot the victim multiple times.

Both suspects then retreated to a light-colored four-door sedan that was parked nearby, according to police. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Wheeler Avenue toward Madison Avenue.

The shooter is believed to have been wearing a mask, a gray hooded sweatshirt and light-colored pants.

The Detective Bureau responded to the scene and has assumed the investigation.
