The Tajik government has transferred temporary ownership of thousands of hectares of land outside the capital, Dushanbe, to a private company in a murky deal, an RFE/RL investigation shows. The head of the company has been identified by government critics as one of authoritarian President Emomali Rahmon’s in-laws. Rahmon and his relatives have long been accused of enriching themselves at the expense of the impoverished nation.
