Woman shares her exact meal plan for a week’s worth of dinners for her family and it costs her just £28 from Sainsbury’s
WITH Christmas over for another year, many of us will be wanting to tighten our belts in January.
Whilst you might not find much in the January sales, one woman can help you save on your weekly food shop and shared how she made a week’s worth of dinners for just £28!
As more of us struggle to make ends meet, we are all looking for easy ways to make our money go further during the cost of living crisis.
Content creator Heidi Ondrak also found herself in a similar position, after splitting with her long term partner and suddenly becoming responsible for the mortgage.
Having previously worked multiple jobs to stay afloat, the project manager began sharing her money-saving hacks that she learnt along the way.
Better known as the Duchess of Thrift on Tiktok, this self-titled ‘Mid Life warrior’ has gained a huge following on the app with over 42,000 fans in the last two years.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, this single mum also shows her followers how to stretch out their weekly food shop using cupboard staples and extra bits from the supermarket.
Heidi even managed to feed her family of four for an entire week on just £28, breaking down how she made each dinner with many ingredients that cost less than a pound.
Urging others to do the same, this thrifty mum even revealed how she saved even more on her weekly shop at Sainsbury’s.
In the now viral video, the mum-of-two revealed that planning was key if you want to get the best value for money.
Rather than using price comparison sites though, Heidi starts by raiding her own cupboard and seeing what she already has in.
“The way to save money is to plan your shopping every week,” she explained, saying: “Plan it around what you’ve got left in the fridge, the freezer and the cupboards.
“Use those ingredients first and then build a menu around there,” the thrifty expert added, revealing that it took her less than 15 minutes to do after work.
Proud of her hard work she told fans: “We’ve got homemade chicken burger and chips, herbie chicken and potatoes, chicken casserole and frozen mash, toad in the hole, air fried chicken and chips, red pesto pasta [wit] bacon and frozen peas.”
Breaking down her menu for that week, the influencer had a healthy mix of meats with chicken, bacon, sausages and chicken mince – all costing less than £20.
She even reduced the cost by making burgers from chicken mince, with Heidi claiming that you got ‘twice the amount’ and that ‘it goes loads further’ when feeding your family.
With over half her budget gone on protein, the mum then bought frozen staples such as mash, chips and pizza to bulk out her meals.
As she had essentials like eggs, milk and flour in the cupboard, Heidi then focus on purchasing fresh vegetables such for under a pound each to help keep her teens healthy.
Having planned a week’s worth of dinners, the mum-of-two was then able to save even more by checking prices online before opting to use Sainsbury’s scan-and-save to get extra money off.
If you weren’t already inspired to try this menu for yourself, the mum-of-two has plenty of others to try which will have your family asking for second helpings!
