Longwood Game Thoughts
Longwood is in the Big South Conference.
With a little research, here is what I learned:
Longwood is located in Farmville, Virginia. No disrespect, but prior to Dayton scheduling this school on the basketball schedule; I had never heard of this college.
Longwood has a spectacularly excellent record of 12-2. I do not see any significant wins. Longwood has played North Carolina Central twice (home and away); each winning on their home court. North Carolina Central is not in their conference; so those two games were non-conference games.
Longwood lost to St. Bonaventure by only 4 points in the opening game of the season.
Pre-season, Longwood was picked 5th out of 9 teams in the Big South conference.
Longwood's head coach is Griff Aldrich. He is in his 5th year at Longwood. He was Big South coach of the year; a couple years ago.
Based upon research of the last couple games, Longwood is playing 7 players with approximately 10 minutes or playing time each game. These players are: Johnathan Massie 6'6" but only 188 pounds JR, Michael Christmas, 6'6" GR, Walyn Napper, 6'1" SR, Szymon Zapala 7'0" 240 JR, Jesper Granland 6'6" SR, Elijah Tucker 6'8" SO and Emmanuel Richards 6'4" FR. They also have two 6'9" guys, Hicks and Burns on the roster but not getting any minutes.
My summary: This looks like a team who knows how to win. Longwood has a great record at 12-2. But, I question the difficulty of their schedule.
