Woman reveals the ‘right time’ to hit Tesco and saves £50 with massive meat haul, nabbing 38p sausages and 84p chicken
IF you are among the many people on a health kick right now, you might be struggling to eat well and save money at the supermarket.
One woman has a fool proof hack for getting low cost groceries and shared her most recent haul – buying chicken for just 84p.
During the cost of living crisis, many of us have been wanting to spend less on our weekly food shop.
Whether you’ve been looking for buy-one-get-one-free deals or racking up your loyalty points to spend in store, even the smallest saving can make a huge difference right now.
However, one savvy shopper has revealed that she has been able to shop at the ‘right time’, resulting in a huge discount for her and her family.
Originally shared in the Yellow Sticker Society group on Facebook, the busy mum revealed how she’d nipped into her local Tesco only to come away with a huge haul.
For those who aren’t in the know, supermarkets will regularly discount items at the end of the day – especially if the products are close to their sell by date or slightly damaged.
Often these will be marked with a specific label, such as a yellow sticker, with shoppers saving huge on their weekly shop – just by knowing this simple hack.
If that weren’t impressive enough, the Facebook user revealed that she’d gotten so many meats using the hack – she struggled to fit them in her freezer.
Posting multiple photos in the group, the Facebook user joked: “When you hit Tescos at the right time! Now to find room in my freezer for it all!”
Listing what she would have paid, the mum-of-three revealed that she’d filled her basket with: a £1.75 pork joint (usually £7), a £6 gammon marked down to £1.50 and packs of chicken breasts for £2.49 – which would have cost £9.95.
If that weren’t impressive enough, her haul continued with: a £1.19 pack of meatballs (normally £4.75), £1.50 packs of sausages for just 38p, mini chicken breasts for 84p (down from £3.35) and goujons for only 45p.
She even managed to pick up Frankfurters for 81p rather than £3.25 – saving £50.82 on her Tesco shop.
Whilst she might have struggled to fit it all into the freezer, it will be worth it as the mum expects to make ‘at least 12 meals’ for her three kids.
If you are looking to get mega discounts like this, it’s best to shop in the evening – which is when most supermarkets are quieter and reduce their stock.
