Eagle-eyed Mr Bates vs the Post Office viewer in hysterics after spotting huge set blunder – did you see it?
MR Bates vs the Post Office has been called out for a huge set ‘blunder’ by an eagle-eyed fan.
The viewer took to social media after it dawned on them that they had seen lead character Mr Bates’ s kitchen used on another recent ITV show.
The real life drama has proved a huge ratings success for ITV1, becoming the most watched programme across all channels when it debuted on New Year’s Day.
The Toby Jones-starring vehicle notched up 3.9million viewers, beating BBC1 rival The Tourist, which scored 2.2million viewers in comparison.
Over on ITVX, the drama about the Post Office scandal has been streamed more than a million times in its first day.
But one viewer was left in hysterics when they realised that the show had ‘recycled’ a set from another recent series.
They recognised Mr Bates’s kitchen as having appeared in Alan Carr’s sitcom, Changing Ends.
The viewer wrote on X, formerly twitter, “Currently watching Alan Carr’s Changing Ends and also Mr Bates vs The Post Office and spotted the same house used is both shows.”
They then added a hysterical laughter emoji.
And to prove their point, they shared screenshots showcasing the identical sets.
But it didn’t put them off, as they remarked they are “both great shows.”
The new drama focuses on the real life nightmare that unfolded when hundreds of subpostmasters were wrongly accused of stealing, false accounting, and fraud by the Post Office when, in fact, it was their own failing computer system causing accounting discrepancies.
Many were jailed, some suffered great mental turmoil and at least one took their own life.
But one man decided enough was enough – former subpostmaster Alan Bates, who himself had to leave his job over financial shortfalls, brought victims together to fight for justice.
Many viewers took to social media last night to admit they were finding it frustrating and upsetting watching the injustice play out.
One person commented: “Watching the second episode of #MrBatesvsThePostOffice and I could cry. It is so awful.”
A second said: “I felt so many painful emotions just watching the programme, it’s hard to even begin to imagine the suffering the victims endured.”
While a third added: “Less than 20 mins in and not sure I can watch this. Sick to my stomach #PostOfficeScandal.”
Alan is played by Toby and the cast also includes Monica Dolan, Julie Hesmondhalgh and Katherine Kelly.
