Ex-RNC strategist urges Trump's presidential opponents to attack their 'Darth Vader'
Donald Trump's opponents in the 2024 presidential race should bone up on their sci-fi movies and reconsider their campaign tactics, former Republican Party communications director Doug Heye said Tuesday.
Heye compared the struggling Republican presidential hopefuls — whom he blasted for cow-towing to the leading conservative candidate while bemoaning primary season process — to the evil-fighting hero of "Star Wars."
"It's almost like Luke Skywalker saying, 'We're going to take out the Death Star," Heye quipped. "But nobody better go after Darth Vader."
Heyer made this analogy on MSNBC Tuesday when he chastised Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis for complaining about the mechanics of state caucuses and primaries instead of Trump himself.

"They're complaining about the referees while their teams aren't doing anything to win the game," Heye said.
Heye argued it was pointless for the less-likely hopefuls to go after each other and ignore the biggest obstacle in their path to the White House.
"Nikki Haley has a new ad," Heye said, deadpan. "It's about DeSantis."
MSNBC host Katy Tur laughed.
"For months and months, they've not gone after Donald Trump," Heye continued. "Did we expect anything to change?"
As evidence, he pointed to the first Republican presidential debate when most candidates said they'd support Trump even if he was convicted of a felony, which, Heye said, "tells you they're not running a serious candidate to defeat the person who's in first place."
But Heye believes the other Republicans are quietly hoping Trump will be curtailed by one of the four criminal indictments or multiple ballot challenges he faces across the U.S.
There's just one problem.
"When I was walking to the studio, I listened to the Dusty Springfield song 'Wishing and Hoping,'" Heye said. "It's a great song. It is not a political strategy."
