The Golden State Warriors tip off the new year with Tuesday night’s matchup against the Orlando Magic. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM PT in San Francisco and can be watched on NBA TV and NBC Sports Bay Area.

Previously with the Warriors:

Golden State ended the 2023 calendar year by extending their losing streak to three games with Saturday’s defeat against the Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors simply had no answer for Mavericks’ superstar Luka Doncic as he surgically picked them apart to a final stat line of 39 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. After another lifeless performance from his team, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called them out for what he called a lack of ‘grit’ on the floor.

What to watch for tonight:

Tuesday night’s game will be the first matchup between the Warriors and the Magic this season. Orlando has quietly become one of the better teams in the NBA, currently ranking fourth in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 19-13. Their top five rated defense remains the team’s biggest strength and powers them to a top 10 net rating in the league.

The biggest challenge for Golden State tonight will be how the team deals with Orlando’s massive size advantage. The Magics’ front court features three players all listed at 6’10” in Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero, and Goga Bitadze. Not to mention, their dynamic defensive backcourt duo of Jalen Suggs (6’5”) and Anthony Black (6’7”) are also big relative to their positions.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are a small team with their only player listed above 6’9” being power forward Dario Saric. The problem is also amplified by the fact that Kerr will be sticking with the starting lineup from their last game featuring Chris Paul and rookie center Trayce Jackson-Davis.

The Warriors made their name by beating taller lineups in the past with their combination of athleticism, skill, and basketball IQ. Although Draymond Green’s suspension is a major blow to the team’s ability to do so now, expect Golden State to come out with some urgency as they hope to get their first win of this seven-game homestand.
