I’m a 53-year-old belly dancer – my body jiggles, creases and rolls, it doesn’t mean I can’t shake it in a crop top
AN age-defying woman in her fifties is championing body positivity with bold videos of herself belly dancing.
She donned a stylish black crop top and jeans as she shook her hips and encouraged others to do the same.
Krista (@kickra18) boasts over 776,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares her love of dancing and staying active.
The 53-year-old took to the social media platform to reassure users that they don’t have to limit themselves because of their age.
She was all smiles as she stood in her living room whining her waist and shaking her hips energetically.
Drums banged rhythmically in the background as she belly danced enthusiastically.
The text over the video read: “Just a reminder…
“That all bodies jiggle, all bodies crease and roll. It’s OK to have scars, marks, and blemishes. Free yourself!”
She attempted to inspire her followers further in the caption of the 15-second video.
“Beauty is seen in all abilities, shapes, sizes, and ages. Don’t deprive yourself the opportunity to shine,” she wrote.
Krista followed up the video with an equally empowering clip of herself responding to a comment from a troll.
“Aren’t you 40 [skull and crying emojis],” the commenter wrote.
Krista assumed the comment was supposed to be an insult rather than a compliment because of the emojis used.
She hit back with a video moving her body to heavy metal band System of a Down’s song B.Y.O.B.
“Who me? I’m actually 53 [grinning with sweat emoji],” read the text over the video.
“But don’t worry! Aging doesn’t mean that you stop having fun. #LoveYourselfMoving.”
She added in a comment: “There’s a lot of fear and misunderstanding of what aging actually is.
“I think they were surprised I also listen to ‘younger’ music.”
The videos racked up thousands of likes and many people took to the comment section complimenting her youthful appearance.
“You look much younger, I’m 57 and a total wreck,” one person wrote.
“I thought you were in your mid-30s or entering your 40s,” another said.
“Age is just a number, don’t let anyone stop you from doing you,” a third added.
“Why do people think that because we are getting older, we suddenly stop enjoying things and feeling the same feelings as when we were younger?” a fourth chimed in.
“Because ageism is alive and well and society glorifies youth. Imagine celebrating all the ages and stages,” Krista replied.
