The Sentry golf tips, free bets and latest odds – Best golf sign up offers for this week
It’s Aloha to a new golf season, with most of the world’s best players preparing to tee off their 2024 campaigns in the inviting surroundings of Hawaii.
Ten of the world’s top 12 players will be in action in the 59 man field for The Sentry – the only exceptions are the latest LIV recruit, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy, who will make his bow in Dubai later this month.
The record prize money of $20million has attracted every other eligible player for what used to be the Tournament of Champions. It is now open to the top fifty from last year’s FedEx Cup race, and all of last year’s PGA Tour winners.
The rule changes mean this is the biggest field in the tournament’s history, and it is packed with quality players.
That makes picking a winner no easy task, so it is a surprise to see world No 1 Scottie Scheffler head the market at a pretty skinny 11-2. There are too many dangers to make that price look tempting.
How to bet on golf
Here are five easy steps for beginners.
1. Choose Your Favourite Sportsbook – there are plenty to choose from and most have their own app or mobile site.
2. Make a Deposit – each sportsbook will walk you through how to connect your bank account to their system including providing a list of all the safeguards they have set up to ensure the safety of your transactions.
3. Claim Your Bonuses – most sportsbooks offers bonuses to first time bettors in the form of free bets.
4. Place Your Bet – now it’s time to navigate through your sportsbook’s odds where they will offer a variety of options including outright winners, or top finishing positions, such as top 10 or 20, or even to make the cut. For the event this week each way odds are generally paid on the top eight players.
5. Collect Your Winnings – If you’re successful you will be able to withdraw your winnings once the bet is complete. Some bookmakers offer cashout options on certain bets as well, which is worth keeping an eye on.
Where to find the best odds for the golf?
Lots of bookmakers have different options for betting on the golf this week, including competitive odds and different place markets.
We like the markets on bet365, including the price boosts on offer pre-event.
This week you can get Viktor Hovland to win at 9/1 or a boosted top 10 treble for Hovland, Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick at 11.27/1.
The Sentry tips
Of course, Scheffler could easily take up where he left off in 2023, when he romped to a three shot victory in the Hero World Challenge, presented by Tiger Woods.
But Scheffler had plenty of ‘previous’ in that event. He finished runner-up to Viktor Hovland two years in a row before going one better last month, but his form in Hawaii is far less convincing.
Previous efforts of T13 and T7 do not exactly yell ‘back me’, especially at a short price. I prefer the chances of last year’s runner up Collin Morikawa, who ought to be coming back as the defending champion.
Morikawa, who can be backed at 14-1, took a six shot lead into the final round – and actually went seven clear before he was mowed down by a sensational finish from Rahm.
The Spaniard played the final seven holes in six under par, while Morikawa stumbled with a hat-trick of bogeys on the back nine. He will be desperate to make amends, and three other top seven finishes here underline his liking for the course.
Max Homa, who was an impressive winner in South Africa a couple of months ago, is still improving, and that remark also applies to his performances in Hawaii.
His share of third last year was his best effort yet, and the 14-1 widely available looks like good value.

Tyrrell Haton usually starts his campaign off in the Emirates. But the decision to switch the Abu Dhabi Championship to the end of the year – instead of going back to back with the Desert Classic, has probably contributed to a change of plans.
I can see Hatton revelling in the scoring chances presented by this wide open par 73, and at 28-1 he looks a decent bet to make a winning debut here..
Further down the list I’m not ready to desert the ultra-consistent Eric Cole, especially at around 66-1. He has rewarded each way support so often that it would be a shame not to reinvest.
And the 175-1 available on Erik van Rooyen – a PGA Tour winner a couple of starts ago – means he could also be worth a small interest.
