‘Are they mad?’ Shoppers fume as that supermarkets stock up on Easter eggs already & are charging £6 for a standard one
WE’VE barely had a second to get over Christmas, but it looks like supermarkets are already gearing up for the next big occasion.
While Easter is still three months away, super organised stores are already flogging Easter eggs – and at extortionate prices, too.
One shocked customer named Rhiannon visited her local Co-op and was stunned to find rows of shelves already jam–packed with various chocolatey treats.
Amongst the Easter eggs on offer include everything from Creme egg to orange Twirl, Wispa and Mini Eggs.
But it wasn’t just the fact that the store was selling the eggs so early that was a major talking point…it was the hefty price tag that came with them, too.
“What in the cost-of-living crisis is this?” Rhiannon asked, in a video posted to TikTok (@rhiannons_way).
“£6 for a medium-size Easter egg.
“Are they mad?”
She captioned the post: “Firstly… the shops need to calm down, its January!
“Secondly, £6 for a standard-sized Easter egg?!?!”
It wasn’t long before Rhiannon’s video went viral, with many social media users rushing to the comments section to reveal that they feel the same.
“WHY ARE THERE EASTER EGGS IN JANUARY PLS,” raged one.
A second penned: “What the hell and Easter eggs already.”
A third commented: “The fact I had to do a double take at crème eggs out for sale on 31st December.”
Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “Point blank not buying them at that price. The reason I only brought 1 selection box too, sky high prices, nah pal, nah.”
Another added: “Ma’am… it is January 2nd. What are they doing??”
Rhiannon replied: “Honestly… I’m not mad about it being January because I love mini eggs but I am mad at the price.”
A further chimed in: “Used to be £1.50.”
And one more wrote: “My son will be getting one when they’re on sale.”
Elsewhere, photos have been shared showing the likes of B&M, Tesco and Sainsbury’s also stocking Easter eggs and Easter-related treats early.
One shopper, who was shocked when she spotted Mini Eggs chocolate eggs in her local Tesco,.
Posting on Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, Ria Phillips shared a picture of the Easter eggs and wrote: “Brace yourselves people ….
