I was mum-shamed in a restaurant for letting my kid on YouTube…I don’t see an issue, otherwise he screams like a banshee
A WOMAN has revealed that she was mum-shamed not once, but twice, during a recent trip out to a restaurant.
Savannah Thrower explained that she let her 11-month-old son watch Ms Rachel on her phone, but was met with mixed reactions from other diners.
Opening up about the situation on social media, the disappointed woman said: “I just left a restaurant where not one, but two people mentioned something about my son watching Miss Rachel on a phone.”
She explained that two people shamed her, as she continued: “And so one lady leaned over and said ‘what did we ever do before phones?’, so my grandma was like, ‘we didn’t go out, we couldn’t go out.’
“And another, the other old man leaned over and said something, and I kind of just tuned him out.”
Savannah then shared that she wants people to “quit judging good mums” as she claimed “Ms Rachel for the win.”
She then added: “But what I want y’all to understand, if you’re one of those people that sees parents out in public and their child is watching a show on YouTube or whatever, and you’re judging, please understand that if my child was not watching Miss Rachel, he’s 11 months old, okay, so, he doesn’t really understand yes or no, or anything like that, okay?
“So you would be unenjoyed – your dinner would not be enjoyable. You would be mad at me if my child was not watching Miss Rachel, to keep him cool, calm, and collected.
“I promise you, you would be telling the waiter ‘they need to leave’.
“So just maybe next time you see a mum and her child is watching Ms Rachel, think I’m gonna get to enjoy my meal now because that child isn’t gonna be screaming like a wild banshee.”
Not only this, but Savannah then claimed: “Parents carry enough guilt as it is, they don’t need to carry your shame too.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @savannahkthrower, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 34,000 likes and 829 shares.
Savannah turned the comments off on her video, but she’s not the only mother on social media to open up about mum-shaming.
A young mum Dana Pearson, 22, from Utah, United States, who goes by the pronouns they/them, previously revealed that they fell pregnant when they were just 17-years-old and as a young parent, is constantly shamed for how they bring up their son.
Dana firstly explained that they are mum-shamed because they “let him choose his own bedtime.”
Secondly, Dana explained that they are judged by other parents because they let their toddler “do his own makeup to match mine.”
Not only this, but Dana revealed that they let their son “dye his hair” and “let him choose what he does and doesn’t want to eat.”
Moreover, Dana explained that some people don’t agree with their parenting because they “spoil him” and “let him go to work with me while I do the final closing stuff.”
Dana also explained that people mum-shame them because they let their son “choose his own [face] mask”, to which he often opts for a unicorn one.
Similarly, Dana noted that they “let him wear skirts” and “let him do his own makeup while I do mine”, which many other parents don’t agree with.
