‘It can cause serious infections’ cleaner issues warning on ‘pink mould’ growing in your bathroom & how to get rid of it
A CLEANING expert has revealed a stark warning on ‘pink mould’ in the bathroom.
Kacie, from Australia, took to social media to warn people of the dangerous effects of the pink sludge typically found in bathtubs and around showers.
While many people assume the pink sludge is just mould or dead skin cells it actually is a sign of a more serious problem.
Taking to TikTok, the cleaning expert warned it was actually a dangerous bacteria that can cause serious infections.
She said: “This pink mould?
“It’s not mould at all. It’s a type of bacteria called serratia marcescens.”
It thrives in warm, humid areas feeding off fatty deposits like soap residue – making the bathroom the perfect place for it to grow.
“The build up of it on your shower can cause infections, so make sure you’re washing it away regularly,” added the cleaning expert.
The bacteria is often harmless, but if it seeps into open wounds, ingested or to those with compromised immune systems it can cause infections.
If you spot the pink residue – it should be cleaned away immediately to prevent any nasty side effects.
The ‘pink mould’ can be removed with a simple wipe using dishwashing liquid and baking soda, as well as bleach.
The clip posted to her TikTok account @kacie_thebigcleanco has since gone viral with over 1million views and 3,000 likes.
People were quick to thank her for letting them know what it was as many had no idea.
One person wrote: “I have never had this I only just heard of this recently and was disgusted.”
Another advised: “Cillit Bang Power Cleaner Black Mould Remover. Spray on, leave for 15 minutes and shower or wipe away. Better than bleach.”
“Acid based cleaner every time to get rid of this,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “I put bleach last week because i had it. I hope to never see it again.”
“I always wondered what it was,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “As a landlord I can confirm that people do not wash their showers regularly. It’s amazing what I find after someone moves out.”
