ITV Emmerdale viewers call out string of glaring blunders with police’s car crash investigation
EMMERDALE fans have been left bewildered by a string of glaring blunders in the police investigation into Heath Hope’s death.
Viewers of the ITV soap were left in shock when Heath was unexpectedly killed off during the New Year’s Day special.
The character died following a car accident in which he and his twin Cathy and their pal Angelica King stole Wendy Posner’s car and drove to a party in nearby Hotten.
However, the young teens ran into trouble as their car crashed off the road and left Heath dead as a result of his injuries.
Fans of the show only ever saw Cathy driving the vehicle as she insisted she had been taught how to drive by her brother Scott, despite only being 16.
Although she has since claimed in a police interview that it was in fact Angel who had got behind the wheel of the car.
During the driving scenes, Heath remarked that they should switch drivers in order to get their faster but it was never made clear if that actually occured.
With a differing account of what exactly happened in the deadly car smash now leaving the police with lots of questions to answer, some fans have called out an obvious plot hole as they say a key part of the investigation was not completed thoroughly.
During Angel and Cathy’s medical examinations, fans argued that they would both have bruising and impact marks from their seatbelts which would give away who was sat where in the car.
However, this detail appears to have not been picked up on by the police.
Equally, both teens were interviewed whilst under arrest at the police station but without any form of legal representation.
Airing their frustrations at the botched scenes, one fan said on X – formerly Twitter: “Why have none of these kids got legal representation in these interviews? And surely in couple hours police will have Angelica’s DNA on the drivers side airbag…”
Someone else quickly followed up to add: “Or the bruising from the seat belts.”
Before a third went onto say: “The seatbelt marks, airbags marks should show the driver, were they examined as in Angelica and Cathy?”
The shock death was kept completely under wraps with the soap revealing no spoilers prior to the scene airing.
Bob Hope has now been left wrestling with himself as he struggles to move on from Heath’s death as well as forgive Cathy for her role in ‘killing’ her brother.
