‘Absolute joke, I’m shocked’ woman fumes as she labels Asda a ‘rip-off’ & claims she’s swapping to Morrisons & Farmfoods
A WOMAN has labelled her local Asda a ‘rip-off’ after a recent online order left her shocked.
Mum-of-five Emma Carter explained that the price of her shop – which contained everyday items including meat, cheese, sun cream and toilet rolls – left her so horrified, she says she’ll now be doing her groceries at Morrisons and Farmfoods in a bid to save some cash.
Posting on social media, Emma described the prices as an ‘absolute joke’ and said: “I’m so sorry I had to put this on TikTok. No lie, I normally go into the shop [but] I’ve ordered online at Asda.”
In total, Emma’s haul was £82: “£5 of that was for delivery,’ she exclaimed.
“£82. Is this an absolute joke? I’m shocked.”
Emma’s experience comes despite Which? naming Asda the cheapest supermarket in the UK.
When comparing which of the UK’s eight biggest supermarkets – Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose – was the cheapest in 2023, the experts found that in an analysis of bigger trolleys of goods, including branded and own-brand items, Asda has been the cheapest every month but one.
Many of Emma’s TikTok followers were also quick to disagree and pointed out that her basket cost so much because of the branded items she added, such three bottles of sun cream from Nivea and Piz Buin.
Appalled at the price of her items, Emma branded Asda a “rip off.”
The mother – who says she had shopped at Asda for years – claimed this latest delivery is the reason she’ll now be going elsewhere.
She shared: “Asda is about 20 minutes from me. Always went there for years, used to get loads for £100 and had five kids then.
“Only have three [kids] now, so have [now] done Morrisons and Farmfoods.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @emmacarter68, has clearly left many open-mouthed as it has quickly racked up a whopping 464,200 views.
Many social media users could understand Emma’s frustration and were eager to share their thoughts in the comments.
One person said: “I switched to Tesco, Asda’s a joke now!”
Another added: “I usually go to Aldi. Went to Asda for a few bits. Christ, so expensive.”
A third commented: “Asda went from being one of the best supermarkets to the worst one.”
Whilst someone else penned: “I stopped shopping at Asda like six months [ago]. I swear it’s the most expensive supermarket now.”
But other shoppers claimed Emma was in the wrong: “Three branded sun creams and a premium brand nine bog rolls and name brand sauces. Could have bought Asda own if price was your concern.”
Another chimed in: “It’s all brand stuff tho, what do you expect? If you buy Asda’s own brand it’s so much cheaper.”
Whilst one bargain hunter shared: “I do shopping at Asda and get over a full week’s shop for £87.”
Meanwhile, another savvy follower penned: “I did a food shop from Asda last week, filled my fridge freezer and cupboards up for about £70, maybe don’t buy all the expensive brands…”
