ITV make huge change to Love Island rules for All Stars series – and it’s good news for the contestants
LOVE Island has lifted its social media ban for contestants entering the All Stars series later this month.
The ban was enforced last year and prevented family and friends from posting for the sexy singletons while they were in the villa.
Prior to that, the accounts of the reality TV stars were used to encourage viewers to vote for them and to build up their following.
However, they were often subject to vile abuse from trolls and there were even occasional spats between contestants’ family and friends.
A Love Island insider has now revealed bosses decided to lift restrictions for the All Stars series.
They explained: “For the All Stars series it was decided that Islanders should have the choice as to whether or not they want to stay active on social media.
“The feeling was that because they have all experienced life in the spotlight, and also have management advising them, that they are already aware of the potential pitfalls and negatives associated with social media.”
They added to MailOnline: “Most of them have had at least a year of living in the limelight so will hopefully be able to handle what being famous throws at them.”
In recent series Love Island has also cracked down on gaslighting following incidents such as Jacques O’Neill and Paige Thorne’s ill-fated romance that viewers found uncomfortable to watch.
ITV has also promised all contestants comprehensive psychological support, social media training, financial management, and a thorough aftercare package following past complaints that islanders were left to go it alone after the show.
