Letter to the editor: Citizens, not elites, choose candidates

The essence of democracy is that citizens -- not appointed party "elites"-- decide who will lead them ("Trump appeals ruling barring him from Maine ballot under the Constitution's insurrection clause," Web, Jan. 2).
