Noel Gallagher to face off against brother Liam as he joins supergroup fronted by music legend
NOEL and Liam Gallagher have been facing off for yonks, with the latter’s desperate attempts to secure an Oasis reunion still not a done deal.
And after going head-to-head with their solo careers for the past decade, the pair are set for a chart battle as part of different supergroups.
We revealed last month how Liam had teamed up with Stone Roses veteran John Squire for a new joint album.
And we can now confirm Noel has something of his own in the pipeline with Happy Mondays legend Shaun Ryder.
The pair have created new song Domino Bones (Gets Dangerous), with the track slated to appear on the debut record of Shaun’s supergroup Mantra Of The Cosmos.
It is due out around the same time as Liam and John’s record.
A source said: “Noel and Liam have always been competitive in their music careers and have both dealt each other some comedy jibes about their solo work.
“And that rivalry is now branching out into a battle of the supergroups.
“Liam and John’s first single, Just Another Rainbow, is out tomorrow, with the record expected to drop over the summer.
“It’ll be the same time Mantra Of The Cosmos will be releasing theirs, and Dynamo Bones will be on the album. Noel and Shaun have talked about working together for some time and they’ve now formally registered the track.
“Noel is in good company in the band because it also features Andy Bell and Zak Starkey, as well as Shaun’s Happy Mondays bandmate Bez.”
Mantra Of The Cosmos dropped their debut single Gorilla Guerilla last summer, with Bez revealing the record was in the works.
He told Bizarre at the time: “We’ve been making a new album. It’s a bit of a mixture of all that lot together.”
Shaun also teased teaming up with Noel at the end of last year, saying: “I gave that (song) to Noel, and then he sent that to Zak.
“So that’s gonna be a Mantra Of The Cosmos thing. Zak’s mixed it totally different, it’s now more like an Eighties electro-beat sort of thing.
“It’s totally different. Noel’s singing on it, me and him.”
NAOMI NEW YEAR BASH
NAOMI CAMPBELL had the ultimate trainer when she jumped in a boxing ring with heavyweight Anthony Joshua.
The supermodel shared these snaps of herself working out with AJ in Dubai.
Alongside photos and video of their session where 6ft 6in Anthony made 5ft 8in Naomi look tiny, she wrote on Instagram: “Happy New Year my panthers.
“Starting in gym with the people’s champ Anthony Joshua. Healthy mind, body and soul.”
She has a famously fiery temper, so AJ was brave to get in front of her with her fists flying. Hopefully he got away relatively unscathed.
KELLY CLARKSON was left with crippling depression after divorcing her TV exec husband Brandom Blackstock in 2020 – but has explained that writing music helped get her through it.
On coming up with her 2023 album Chemistry, she explained: “I didn’t see it other than: This is my outlet. I’m a let-go person, I don’t hold grudges.
“So it was really delving into what happened in my life and why and what am I going to do about it?
“I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet.
“Because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard.
“You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming.”
ARI’S GRANDE REBOUND
ARIANA GRANDE is ready to switch up her Positions for her comeback video.
We can reveal the superstar will make her return imminently and has secretly shot the visuals for her upcoming song with an impressive choreography routine alongside a troupe of dancers.
The clip was recorded at the Powerhouse Arts building in Brooklyn, New York, to give the video a rough and ready vibe thanks to the venue’s exposed steel beams.
Ever the pop diva, Ariana will undergo multiple sultry looks in the clip, with the song set to be announced as the lead track to her seventh album in the coming days.
A source said: “It’s been three years since she last released a lead single after she took time out to focus on herself and her acting but Ariana is ready to hit the ground running.
“The clip was shot at the end of last year, with the blueprint for the next few months all set out.”
Ariana’smost recent record, Positions, hit the top spot here when it was released in late 2020.
Reflecting on the past year, she hinted last month at her split from her estate agent husband Dalton Gomez, who she was married to for just over two years, before adding she is now feeling stronger than ever.
On her Instagram Story she wrote: “It’s been one of the most transformative, most challenging, and yet happiest and most special years of my life.
“I have never felt more pride or joy or love while simultaneously feeling so deeply misunderstood by people who don’t know me, who piece whispers together and make what they want out of me and their assumptions of my life.
“I have learned how much more important one of those things is than the other.”
Positions helped secure her fourth UK No1 single, so no doubt she will be hoping she can turn her pain into art once more.
WHAT A NICE SEA ’CHELLE
IT’S two decades since Buffy The Vampire Slayer beauty Sarah Michelle Gellar dazzled in the TV fantasy drama’s final episode.
But the American actress still looked incredible in this bright swimsuit on a New Year’s getaway to Hawaii with her husband, Scooby-Doo star Freddie Prinze Jr.
Sarah also starred in 1999 flick Cruel Intentions then two live-action Scooby-Doo films in the early Noughties.
Her heyday and Buffy exploits, right, may now be behind her but Sarah Michelle will be back for a cameo as a judge on the upcoming series of RuPaul’s Drag Race in the US when it kicks off this week.
Elton tour pulled in £118k a day
SIR ELTON JOHN can afford a lavish retirement now that his final tour is over as he made £43.3million over 12 months, an astonishing £118,600 per day for a year.
New figures for the superstar’s accounts, ending in March 2023, show the money made through his live music company.
The huge windfall was earned from the shows on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, as well as all the merch that was snapped up by punters.
The epic tour, which launched in Pennsylvania, in the US, in 2018 and ended five years later in Stockholm, Sweden, has gone down in history as the second highest-grossing of all time, behind only Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour.
Elton has said he now intends only to perform live occasionally – and he won’t have to flog himself to death with all that extra cash in his bank to add to his worth of £450million.
Despite the huge figure, the salary was still eclipsed by his pal Ed Sheeran.
The Sun told last month how the Thinking Out Loud singer earned £170,000 per day over the same 12 months thanks to his Mathematics Tour.
We know where to go when we need a couple of quid.
Selena’s off after next LP
SELENA GOMEZ intends to retire from music after her next album to commit to acting.
The Hands To Myself singer has had five Top Ten singles but said she wants to focus on one career, having got into it while working on the Disney series Wizards Of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012.
She said: “I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun.
“But I was doing my TV show at the same time and I found it really fun so I just kept going. But the older I get, the more I would like to find something to settle on.
“I do feel like I have one more album in me.”
Selena added on the SmartLess podcast: “I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended on being a singer.
“I don’t think I’m the best singer but I do know how to tell stories and I love being able to make songs.”
Marvin’s American dream
MARVIN HUMES says he still hopes JLS will crack America.
The singer, who emerged with the band 16 years ago, tells us: “When we were on X Factor we made a goals list of 300 things we wanted to achieve and every single night we would read out the list.
“We’ve easily achieved 100 of them, which is incredible. They say make as many goals as you can and if you achieve half of them you have been successful.
“We’ve won Brit awards, had arena tours, written No1 singles and albums.
“The only big thing we didn’t achieve was international success. It’s our only regret.”
He added of their American dream: “Times have changed and there’s much more of an outreach due to social media, so we would like to go to new countries. Cracking America is a dream for every artist.”
KYLIE TOP OF THE CROPS
KYLIE JENNER is already getting down to business to make her clothing line a success in 2024.
The influencer and reality star launched her brand Khy at the end of last year and got back to work this week for this photoshoot to show off the latest designs.
They include a series of comfy looks, but a micro tee and cropped hoodie combo like this won’t really cut it in a British winter.
Though not a budget range, surprisingly it is cheaper than most other things she – or her sisters – have put their names in the past, with this outfit coming in at £145.
Even so, we are sure you can pick up a lookalike outfit for a fraction of the price in most super markets.
Kylie has proved to be a huge success story in business, making hundreds of millions of pounds from her cosmetics brand, imaginatively named Kylie Cosmetics.
Even if no one wants to buy her gear, she won’t be short of something to wear.
