The Masked Singer fans convinced they know who is behind Cricket – and it’s a Radio 1 presenter
THE Masked Singer fans are convinced they have worked out the identity of Cricket – and it’s a Radio 1 presenter.
Viewers have been trying to guess the identity of the insect since they made their debut on the new series of the guessing game on Saturday night.
The green creature performed Place Your Hands by Reef in the opening episode of series five.
And some amateur sleuths watching along at home reckon it’s a certain Radio 1 breakfast presenter.
“@gregjames are you cricket? #TheMaskedSingerUK,” one wrote on X, formerly twitter.
And a second guessed: “Cricket – Greg James or Harry Judd”.
Cricket performed on stage at the weekend with several dancers dressed as cricket players.
But Greg James isn’t the only guess doing the rounds on social media.
Some think he is none other than Blue star Simon Webbe.
One wrote: “I’m not sure on the clues yet either but I compared the voices of Cricket’s first performance and one of Simon’s solo songs and they sound similar. His voice definitely reminds me of his high notes on All Rise.”
This person replied: “Oh this is a good guess! I was thinking a sports star but now I can’t un-hear Simon.”
While another agreed and said: “I think Cricket is Simon Webbe from Blue. It sounded a lot like him and I do think Cricket is a singer based on the comments Rita said about his voice.”
A fourth thought it could be singer-songwriter Lemar but was also left torn, adding: “I was 50/50 between both Lemar and Simon Webbe.”
Another theorised: “Simon Webbe is 5’11, Lemar is 6 foot, I know the head could give a few extra inches, but I think it’s stretching it a bit, but it does sound like Simon a lot.”
Judge Davina McCall meanwhile reckons it could be The Repair Shop star Jay Blades, commenting on the ‘blades’ of grass in his entrance VT.
Jonathan Ross, however, was convinced Cricket is comedian Vic Reeves after the mystery singer made a reference to feeling ‘dizzy’ – the name of Vic’s number one hit in the 1990s.
