Major boost for Man Utd as €125m duo return to training ahead of Spurs clash
Manchester United have been handed a double injury boost ahead of their clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on January 14.
Man United duo Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have returned to full training following lengthy injury absences, as confirmed by ManUtd.com.
Martinez has been out since late September with a recurrence of a foot injury.
He last featured in the opening Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
Casemiro last played in the Red Devils’ 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup. He suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out for the rest of 2023.
The return of key duo could make the difference for Ten Hag
Martinez and Casemiro are the two best signings under the watch of Ten Hag. The Red Devils splashed €125 million to bring the pair to the Theatre of Dreams.
United have missed Martinez’s passing range and leadership at the back.
The Argentina international formed a robust partnership with Raphael Varane last season.
His return could also benefit Varane, who has not performed at the high standards he has set for himself.
Martinez’s return will be music to the ears of every United supporter.
Casemiro had a fabulous debut season at Old Trafford. However, he has not been at his best since the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
The United supporters would hope that his downturn in performance won’t continue once he is back.
Ten Hag has failed terribly to strike a balance in his midfield this campaign.
The opponents have repeatedly exploited the space in United’s midfield to score goals.
The Dutchman could field a partnership of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo in the centre in future.
Tottenham are a direct rival for United in their race to finish in the top four spots in the Premier League.
The Red Devils are eight points behind Spurs and would want to close the gap.
