WATCH- The internet is in awe of Jasprit Bumrah’s “selective translation” of Mohammed Siraj’s Hindi
Jasprit Bumrah displayed humility at the second India vs. South Africa Test post-match presentation at Newlands in Cape Town. Mohammed Siraj was using the elite pacer as a translator when the latter gave Bumrah credit for assisting him in bowling. Bumrah gave more credit to the team management and the two people’s experience when translating it into English. Bumrah’s modest gesture was well received by his admirers, who widely disseminated the interaction’s footage on social media.
“Jassi bhai hamesha jab start karte hain toh message milta hai ki kya wicket pe kon si line or length better hai. Toh wo message milne se mujhe zyada sochne ki zarurat nahi rehti hai, bas consistent wo chiz pe work karenge to success milega. Bas yahi. Wo saamne end pe rahe toh bohot hi acha lagta hai (When Bumrah starts bowling, he gives me an idea of what kind of wicket it is and which length is better on it. I don’t have to think much and just have to follow it consistently to get success. When he is there at the other end, it feels good),” said Siraj.
Bumrah was gracious enough to add a stronger team centric point of view to the statement. There was no indication in his translation of the statement that Siraj gave him credit for his accomplishments.
“So yeah because when we play along together, he gets the message a little earlier because when I,” stopped Bumrah before continuting “because of our experience, we try to analyze the wicket a little quicker so that communication goes in the bowling circuit that you know this is the wicket and this is what we are looking to do. So that helps him sometimes,” said India’s pace spearhead Bumrah.

Although Bumrah had accompanied Siraj for the post-match discussion in the role of translator, on one occasion the latter had to be reminded of Bumrah’s presence as he attempted to address every query in English.
The Indian cricket team finished their tour to South Africa on Thursday by winning the second Test match by seven wickets and taking the series to a one-all draw.
Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah shared 15 wickets between them, making it their match. Siraj took six for fifteen in the opening over, while Bumrah claimed two wickets. South Africa’s next innings saw Bumrah deliver figures of 6 for 61 and Siraj take one wicket.
