Sports Briefs: San Rafael girls roll with OT win
Addie Gaw hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, and San Rafael went on to defeat International, 60-55, Wednesday night in a non league girls basketball contest. Gaw finished with nine points, five rebounds and five assists.
Junior Sophia Everett and sophomore Jessica Vara led San Rafael (7-7) with 17 points each. Vara knocked down five 3-pointers. Everett added 10 rebounds and five assists. Senior Cassidy Kaplan chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Junior Estefani Pantojas had six points and four rebounds to help the Bulldogs come back from an 11-point deficit in the second half.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to open MCAL play against Redwood on Tuesday.
Boys basketball
Four Bulls players scored in double digits as the Branson School defeated a staunch University squad, 79-60, on Wednesday at the Memorial Gym in San Francisco. The Bulls got 19 points from Semetri Carr, followed by Finley Keeffe’s 18 points and DJ Armstrong’s 13 points. Branson (10-5) is scheduled to open MCAL play against Redwood on Friday at College of Marin.
University (10-5) has an upcoming home date with San Domenico on Jan. 10, then heads across the Golden Gate Bridge to face Marin Academy on Jan. 12, as the Red Devils kick off the Bay Counties League schedule.
• Andrew Halsing lit up the scoreboard with 26 points as Novato stopped Point Arena, 68-61, Wednesday. The Bulldogs got a double-double from Joshua DeVore, who had 19 points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists. Travis Flick added 13 points, seven rebounds and six steals. The Hornets (6-8) are scheduled to play Terra Linda in Friday’s MCAL opener.
Women’s basketball
Alaiyah San Juan scored a game-high 19 points to help rally Dominican University past Hawaii Pacific, 65-60, on Wednesday. Andrea Perez added 13 points and Keynote Neal scored 12 points for the Penguins (11-3, 4-2 PacWest).
• The Mariners’ Isobel Crosswhite celebrated her birthday with a team-high 17 points, but College of Marin could not generate much more offense in a 75-21 loss to Laney on Wednesday. Crosswhite had seven rebounds and Samantha Morris chipped in 10 rebounds and two points.
Baseball
Terra Linda High is accepting applications for a varsity assistant baseball coach for the upcoming spring season. Terra Linda is also hiring a JV head coach and JV assistant coach.
